How did Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe meet?

Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe met in 1952 while she was filming the movie “The Seven Year Itch”. Joe was instantly smitten with her and they began dating soon afterwards. Joe proposed to Marilyn in 1953, but she initially turned him down because she was unsure about getting married again (she had previously been married to James Dougherty and Joe DiMaggio). Joe was very persistent though, and eventually she agreed to marry him.

Of all the places Joe and Marilyn could have chosen to get married, why did they choose San Francisco?

Joe and Marilyn both loved California and wanted to get married there. They originally considered getting married in Los Angeles, but decided on San Francisco because it was Joe’s hometown.

Joe and Marilyn’s wedding was a small, private affair with only close family and friends in attendance. The couple honeymooned in Japan, where Joe was stationed during his military service. DiMaggio and Monroe were divorced in October 1954, just 274 days after they were married.

Joe never remarried and died in 1999.

5) Joe DiMaggio was one of the most successful baseball players of all time. He played for the New York Yankees from 1936 to 1951 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955. Joe’s 56-game hitting streak is still a Major League record.
